有人说，地球的颜色是绿色的，她孕育着生命，预示着人类的诞生和未来。 如今，地球生态环境已被人类活动严重破坏。尤其是水的污染更为突出。
水是怎样被污染的呢？原因主要有两种：一是自然的，一是人为的。火山爆发和干旱地区的风蚀作用所产生的大量灰尘落入水体而引起的水污染，这属于自然污染。向水体排放大量未经处理的工业废水、生活污水和各种废弃物，造成水质恶化，这属于人为污染。而人们通常所说的水污染主要是指后一种，而且也是最主要的。
污染的水对人体的影响有很多不利的因素：人体中70%—80%是水分，因此长期饮用不良的水质，而导致体质不佳抵抗力自然减弱，则百病发生乃必然，再者长期累积之污染物到达身体无法承受时，再高明的医生、再有效的药物恐怕也难奏效，所以“水是百药之王”的说法一点都不假。
