Interpreting the feelings of other people is not always easy. We as much on what they seem to be telling us, as on the actual words they say. Facial expressions and tone of voice are obvious ways showing our reaction to something, and it may well be that we express what we are trying to hide. The art of being tactful(机智的) 43 in picking up these signals, realizing what the other people is trying to say, and acting so that they are not embarrassed in any way. For example, we may understand that they are in fact to answer our questions, and so we stop pressing them. Body movements in general way also indicate feelings, and interviewers pay particular attention to the way a candidate for a job walks into the room and sits down. while what employers want to know relates to the candidate’s character traits(特性) and stability. This raises the awkward question of whether job candidate’s should be asked to complete psychological tests, and the further problem of 47 such tests actually produce reliable results. For many people, being asked to take part in such a test would be an objectionable intrusion (闯入, 侵扰) into their private lives. a prospective employer would hardly ask a candidate to run a hundred meters, or expect his or her family doctor to provide confidential medical information. Quite apart from this problem, can such tests predict whether a person is likely to be a employee or a valued colleague?

Dancing for joy
With the recent release of their second album Don’t Don, the South Korean boy band, Super Junior, are creating another wave of sensation (狂热) across Asia.
Han Geng, better known by his Korean name, Han Kyung, stands out more than any of the other 12-members in the band, because he is Chinese.
He is one of the three lead dancers in the group, but the 23-year-old had to overcome plenty of obstacles to make it as a singer in a foreign country.
Han was brought up in Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang. Born with a talent for music and dancing, the boy from the Hezhen minority (赫哲族) went to Beijing at the age of 13 on his own to learn dancing. While studying at Central University for Nationalities, Han made every effort to learn the Chinese traditional dances from the 56 ethnic groups (民族) as well as martial arts and ballet.
Han was discovered in 2001 at the H.O.T. China Audition Casting, where his handsome looks and skillful dancing made him stand out from over 3,000 candidates.
But stardom (成名) in South Korea didn’t come easily. When Han arrived in South Korea in late 2003, he had to receive individual lessons in singing, dancing, and acting. As a foreigner, he had much more to learn than the other band members. He slept for just four hours a day and spent the rest of time perfecting his craft and learning the Korean language.
Two years later, SM Entertainment finally announced Han as a member of Super Junior. But during the first few months of Super Junior’s appearance Han was forced to wear a mask when performing on TV programs in South Korea because he is Chinese.
―Those years were my hardest times, but I had to go on. I would not give up,‖ he recalled. All the effort finally paid off in 2006, when the band’s first album, Super Junior 05, won lots of awards. At the awards ceremony, for the first time he used Chinese in front of the flashing cameras to express his feelings and his pride of being Chinese.
―I’m really happy to win the award after all the hard work. I hope everyone here looks forward to the day when we perform in China,‖ he said.

The World Is Getting Smaller
Imagine this: a television screen the size and thickness of a piece of paper. You carry it around in your pocket and take it out when you want to watch a show. Imagine a guitar so tiny you can’t see it with the human eye, but you can hear sounds when its strings are plucked(拨). Some people say the future is big, but when it comes to technology, the world is getting smaller.
Nanotechnology(纳米技术) is the science that deals with doing things in a very small way, and it is being explored and developed all over the globe. Micromachines too small to be seen by the human eye are being designed to do many things that larger machines do today. And these machines, no longer in diameter(直径)than a human hair, are extremely powerful. Many scientists say nanotechnology will produce the next industrial revolution.
Maybe the area where nanotechnology will have the biggest impact is medical science. Imagine nanobots in medicine. Thousands or even millions of tiny machines can be sent into the human body with specific missions. For example, they can be designed to find and destroy cancer cells or viruses. Other machines may stay in the human body permanently to help organs that are not functioning properly.
Think of the possibilities in using such tiny machines in surgery. Imagine machines so small you can swallow them in a pill or inject them into your bloodstream through a needle. After you’ve had too many years of junk food, these tiny robots could be sent into your arteries(动脉)to clean them. An intelligent machine in your heart would look around to find the problem and then repair it. If you needed an operation, it would be almost like swallowing the surgeon.
When could all of this happen? Scientists predict that much of this is possible in the next 30 years. After all, when your grandparents were young, they would have laughed if someone told them a person could walk on the moon. Thousands of scientists around the world are working on these micromachines. Nanotechnology is just around the corner.
69.Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the passage?
A. Nanotechnology will produce next industrial revolution.

B. are too small to be repaired
C. may not function well in human body
D. can also be used to send human onto the moon
71.The phrase ―just around the corner‖ in the last sentence means ―___________‖.
A. in the distance B. right under your notice
C. likely to happen soon
(C)
"Congratulations. Mr. Jones, it's a girl"
Fatherhood is going to have a different meaning and bring forth a different response from every man who hears these words. Some feel pride while they receive the news, while others worry, wondering whether they will be good fathers. Although there are some men who like children and may have had considerable experience with them, others do not particularly care for children and spend little time with them. Many fathers and mothers have been planning and looking forward to children for some time. For other coup1es, pregnancy(怀孕)was an accident that both husband and wife have accepted wi1lingly or unwil1ingly.
Whatever the reaction to the birth of a child, it is obvious that the shift from the role of husband to that of father is a difficult task. Yet, unfortunately, few attempts have been made to educate fathers in this resocia1ization process. Although numerous books have been written about American mothers, only recently has literature focused on the role of a father.
It is argued by some writers that the transition to the father's role, a1though difficult, is not nearly as great as the transition the wife must make to the mother's role. The mother's role seems to require a complete transformation in daily routine and highly innovative(创新的) adaptation. On the other hand, the father's ro1e is 1ess demanding and immediate. However, even though we mentioned the fact that growing numbers of women are working outside the home, the father is sti1l thought by many as the breadwinner in the household.
72. According to the author, being a father______.
A .brings a feeling of excitement to men
B.brings a feeling of worry to men
C. makes some men feel proud and others uneasy
D. has a different meaning for those who have daughters
73. In the second paragraph, the author ______.
A criticizes fathers for not taking enough responsibi1ities in bringing up their children.
B excuses the American writers for ignoring the difficulties of being a father
C supports the idea that the chief role of a father is to earn money for the family
D complains about the lack of social programs to help husbands adjust themselves to being a
D. beyond all imagination
father
74. The transition to the mother's role requires that the wife ______.
A change her life style in a highly innovative way
B make a complete change in her everyday life to deal with the new situation
C support the idea to take care of the baby
D help her husband in his resocialization process
75. Some writers argue that with respect to the change of roles, fathers, compared with mothers, ________.
A have to shoulder more burdens
B have to make more difficult adaptations
C have an easier job to do
D can usually do a better job
(D)
Hunting
The days of the hunter are almost over in India. This is partly because there is practically nothing left to kill, and partly because some steps have been taken, mainly by banning tiger-shooting, to protect those animals which still survive.
Some people say that Man is naturally a hunter. I disagree with this view. Surely our earliest forefathers, who at first possessed no weapons, spent their time digging for roots, and were no doubt themselves often hunted by meat-eating animals.
I believe the main reason why the modern hunter kills is that he thinks people will admire his courage in overpowering dangerous animals. Of course, there are some who truly believe that the killing is not really the important thing, and that the chief pleasure lies in the joy of the hunt and the beauties of the wild countryside. There are also those for whom hunting in fact offers a chance to prove themselves and risk death by design; these men go out after dangerous animals like tigers, even if they say they only do it to rid the countryside of a threat. I can respect reasons like these, but they are clearly different from the need to strengthen your high opinion of yourself.
The greatest big-game hunters expressed in their writings something of these finer motives (动机). One of them wrote.
―You must properly respect what you are after and shoot it cleanly and on the animal’s own territory (领地). You must fix forever in your mind all the wonders of that particular day. This is better than letting him grow a few years older to be attacked and wounded by his own son and eventually eaten, half alive, by other animals, Hunting is not a cruel and senseless killing – not if you respect the thing you kill, not if you kill to enrich your memories, not if you kill to feed your people. ‖
I can understand such beliefs, and can compare these hunters with those who hunted lions
with spears(矛) and bravely caught them by the tail. But this is very different from many tiger-shoots I have seen, in which modern weapons were used. The so-called hunters fired from tall trees or from the backs of trained elephants. Such methods made tigers seem no more dangerous than rabbits.
76.There is no more hunting in India now partly because
A. it is dangerous to hunt there
B. hunting is already out of date
C. hunters want to protect animals
D. there are few animals left to hunt
77.The author thinks modern hunters kill mainly ____.
A. to make the countryside safe
B. to earn people’s admiration
C. to gain power and influence
D. to improve their health
78.What do we learn about the big-game hunters?
A. They hunt old animals.
B. They mistreat animals.
C. They hunt for food.
D. They hunt for money.
79.What is the author’s view on the tiger-shoots he has seen?
A. Modern hunters lack the courage to hunt face-to-face.
B. Modern hunters should use more advanced weapons.
C. Modern hunters like to hunt rabbits instead of tigers.
D. Modern hunters should put their safety first.

C. makes some men feel proud and others uneasy
D. has a different meaning for those who have daughters
