Unit 1 Further Reading The Personal Qualities of a teacher

Teaching goals:

1. Lead the Ss to use scanning , skimming and careful reading skills

to understand the text

2. Learn to guess the words meaning

3. Educate the Ss to understand teachers

The important point and difficulty: How to get the Ss to use the scanning and skimming methods to understand the text

Teaching procedures:

Step One Pre-reading Lead-in

1.Free talk : Do you like your Chinese teachers ?

Why do you like her?

What qualities do you think a teacher should have?

2.Get the Ss to write down as many words as they can to describe a teacher

Such as patient attractive tolerant sympathetic humorous devotion

3. Lead to learn these words

4. Present today’s task

Today We’ll read a text The Personal Qualities of a teacher

Step Two While -Reading

Tell the Ss something about scanning and skimming

Today we will use scanning and skimming to read the text. Skimming is a type of rapid reading which is used to get the main idea or ideas Scanning is used to locate some specific information without understanding the whole passage.

2.Let the Ss to use the scanning skills

Let The Ss to read No.1 and understand the requirement

Let the Ss to use Scanning skills to read the text

Then answer questions of Exercise 1 choose the best answers

Tell them this time it’s not necessary to complete reading,only finding the necessary information is Ok.

Let them to check in pairs then teacher corrects it .

3. Skimming:

Let the Ss to skim the text and retell the text with the help of the following:

Firstly ……attractive

Secondly………sympathetic…..telerant

Thirdly……..lively and interesting

Fourthly…….patience

Finally………cooperation

4. Carefully reading:

the Ss to read carefully again and answer

What is the three main respects of teacher’s study ?

teacher writes some words in the text ,asks the

Ss to guess the meanings:

patient attractive tolerant sympathetic cooperation

Deal with some language points

Be boring make mistakes a bit of good- looking every now and then deal with

Let the Ss to finish the last paragraph

Step Three Post-reading

1. Let the Ss to discuss in groups

What teacher would you like best? Use the following

Age

Sex

Height

Clothing

Appearnace

Hobby

Personal qualities

2.Let them perform in class Step Four Homework

Write down what they disscuss
