The film, Pride And Prejudice, told the story of different treatments about marriage by five daughters in Bennett family, showed girls' different attitude between marriage and love who born in the township middle-class family, and also reflected the eighteenth century marital status of British aristocrats. Although their family was not very rich and had any social eminence, Mrs Bennett was deliberately finding the marriage opportunities between five daughters and high society and the aristocratic.
The heroine Elizabeth was smart and witty, courageous, visionary, highly self-esteem, and good at thinking. It is because of these qualities so that she has an independent opinion on the issue of love. Elizabeth refused Darcy's courtship before acceptance that still further showed her defiance of marriages without love. Darcy's arrogant manner made Elizabeth misunderstand and prejudice him. Darcy realized this, changed the kind of proud and arrogant demeanor in the past, eliminating Elizabeth's prejudice against him. They gradually understood each other, lifted prejudices, abandoned meaningless values of decency, and finally realized and loved each other's virtues, thus fulfilling a happy marriage with him.
Gentle and considerate sister Jane and powerful Bentley, although their marriage does not rule out the appearance and family considerations, mainly also based on the basis of love. On the contrary, Elizabeth's friend, Sherlock, who thinks she was not beautiful besides had no money, chosen to combine with silly and superficial Collins for economic reasons. Although, Charlotte and Collins had a comfortable material life, they didn ’t have love, this marriage was actually covered in the cloak of social tragedy.
The film reflected author's own view of marriage: it is wrong to marry for property, money and status; and it is also foolish to marry without regard to the above. Mrs Bennet is a microcosm of society at that time among most people, love is not a reliable luxury for them, they only think of materials and the value of power. Similarly, Elizabeth's sister, Lydia, as well as her father's marriage is unfortunate, for they were confused by the beauty of appearance, while ignoring the moral character. They regret for their choice all life. Therefore, the author opposed marriage for money, and also opposed to regard marriage just as a trifling matter. She emphasized the importance of ideal marriage, and regards the feelings of both men and women as the cornerstone of the ideal marriage.
Through the film, we learned the true meaning of marriage is love. Love and marriage are the constant theme of human beings. Marriage should be based on love, while marriage with money, beauty appearance or desires is difficult to be happy. And
through mutual understanding, throwing aside vanity and prejudice, with excellent character, we can build a happy marriage.
